90’s Colors Are Still in Style

T

he 90s are back, baby! From skate shoes and baggy jeans to butterfly clips and tie-dye, the 90s are alive and well in 2020. The 90s trend has taken over the fashion world for a couple of years now, but that doesn’t mean that it’s slowing down anytime soon. If you thought your company could get away with ignoring it as a fad, it’s time to re-think your next product selection!

One way to easily add a little 90s flair to your inventory, even if the 90s trend doesn’t really fit with your brand, is to incorporate more trendy 90s colors. So what should you look out for?

Neon

The 90s were a colorful decade. Between bright geometric prints and Lisa Frank, some styles in the 90s looked like they were straight out of an acid trip. Now, that doesn’t mean your inventory needs to be seen from space, but by adding some bright colors and prints to best selling silhouettes you can start adding in that 90s vibe. Think about adding in bike shorts or fanny packs, both still on-trend, in bright colors and fun prints.

Tie-Dye

This is not your mother’s tie-dye. Although tie-dye is actually a trend the 90s stole from the 70s, tie-dye has come a long way from the loosely marbled prints of the past. Today’s tie-dyes are well-planned, consistent, and in today’s popular color palettes. You’ll see this trend on leggings, sports bras, backpacks, and even outerwear.

Denim

Button-downs, overalls, baggy jeans, denim skirts, jean jackets — there are so many ways to wear denim this year. Realistically, is denim ever out of style? The key here to get the whole 90s look is about the shapes. Mom jeans are making a comeback as well as oversized baggy jeans that would make your inner sk8r girl scream. When it comes to updating denim for the decade, pay close attention to the styles and shapes.

Jewel Tones

The moral of the 90s story is do not be afraid of color. Rich and deep jewel tones were there for those of us not bold enough for the neon. Pair a deep plum with some leopard print for an updated 90s look or stock your inventory with deep blue, green, and mauve tracksuits.

If you thought the 90s trend wasn’t a fit for your brand, think again! This trend is here to stay for a while and there are so many ways to add in touches while still staying on-brand. Think of adding 90s details like scrunchies, fanny packs, and mini backpacks in some on-trend 90s colors and prints.

It’s obvious this nostalgic trend is here to stay for a while, but understanding which pieces are selling is going to be important before you invest in 900 pairs of platform sneakers. By researching the trends and looking at what’s popular with fashion influencers, you can make smart buying decisions that will fly out the door.
